Ms. Mogul in Media : Darcel Laurie

Happy Friday Luvs!

The work week is almost over but for those of us working in media and entertainment the week is just beginning! I wanted to share with you my candid interview with a dynamic woman in entertainment whose career is on the rise daily. She's been featured on Power 99 FM in Philly, Contributing Writer for Sheen and Lucky Magazines, Writer for, Dream Nation TV media personality, and credits her start to being an extra on the reality show Lala's Full Court Life as her beginnings in entertainment. She is Darcel Laurie! The creator of Moguls in Media and I had a chance to chat about her career in entertainment and upcoming events she's planning to make a mogul out of you!

So here's how it all went down......

How did you get your start in entertainment?

Darcel: "I actually started off in the industry as an extra on the reality show of Lala's Full Court Life because they needed extras for a particular scene. Then I kind of got bit by the "bug" as they say and I was amazed by how other's were using a bigger platform to inspire other people. That's when I decided I wanted to work in the industry as well. So I started as a journalist and share people's stories by blogging for different platforms then I was able to break through to major magazines like Sheen, Lucky, and Industry Rules. So things really started to come together as for me starting my journey in journalism. That's when I knew I wanted to take it a step further to do tv and I saw Dream Nation TV was looking for people. So now I've started my own platform called Moguls in Media."

When I first created Moguls in Media I was thinking of it being a one time only event. However, so many people told me they really enjoyed the event and many did not want to leave after it was over so I may take it to major cities like New York, Atlanta, LA, and start branching out the network of great powerful women together. -Darcel L.

When did you decide to transition to television?

Darcel: "I saw that Dream Nation TV was looking for new correspondents. So that's when I interviewed with the Founder of Dream Nation Cameron Washington and we just flowed off the back everything went well. So I still interview people and go to red carpets but the platform for Dream Nation TV was already created but they wanted to change it up a bit to be more of a conversation similar to the Holiday show you saw online."

What has your experiences been like on the radio?

Darcel: "I've only done radio with Cappuchino as far as promotions and I was able to get on the air a few times. As well as other radio stations for promotional purposes for Moguls in Media. I really enjoy being on the radio so that may be next for me."

How has it been writing for major publications like Sheen and Lucky?

Darcel: "When I first started writing I started out blogging. Then I started submitting those writing samples to different magazines. Lucky actually liked my style and I was able to attend my first New York Fashion Week as a journalist for Lucky which was cool so I got to interview people like Michael Costello. Then I started submitting to different platforms that's when Sheen came along so I was able to interview Nicole Murphy, Eva Marcille, Marlow Hampton of Real Housewives of Atlanta, and with Dream Nation I was able to interview Tyrese Gibson, Misty Copeland, Loretta Devine, and I've been on a few red carpets which has been pretty cool."

Do you think long-term you would like to continue in media?

Darcel: " Definitely. TV gives you an opportunity to show your personality and people get to see a different side of you. Writing I get to show my creative style and I'm able to put a piece of work together which is great. I'm intrigued to know more about promotionals with radio so that's another venture I want to tackle as well."

What is your down time like nowadays?

Darcel: "Well in my down time I am still thinking about my businesses. However, I love hanging out with my family members so I love spend time with family and friends. I absolutely love a girls night out and sometimes when your so busy I love just kicking back and watching TV by myself."

Darcel Laurie is making major moves in entertainment and is using her platform to inspire others to ignite their inner "mogul" spirit. I love her tenacity to pursue her dreams and embrace every moment to increase her brand presence. Its all about paying it forward and I think we could learn so much from her story on giving back. She's definitely inspired me and I wish her continued success.
