Watermelon is in Season
Happy Sunday Luvs!
What a wonderful weekend filled with great music and even greater friends. My Friday afternoon kicked off musically right because I had the pleasure of attending the Capo Vintage Pop-Up Shop Round 6: Watermelon in the Summer Time Series! Artist Allie Capo has an amazing series of authentically creative vibes that made for a great Summer time feel on a Friday afternoon. There's nothing like live music, local vendors, and sweet fruit displays. The event was held at Spectre Arts located in Durham, NC tucked away off of Alston Ave. It was a true block party style vibe as I walked up to the venue and its backyard entrance way led to a yard filled with artistic peers in music, art, and supporters of the culture. The vendors ranged from handmade jewelry with specialty touches to artists painting in the midst of performances. Not to mention I loved all of the watermelon themed paintings surrounding the main stage in the corner of the lot. As I walked up I was greeted by music producer and artist Quentin Rashad who showed me the lovely pieces of one of the vendors present. As I made my way to the stage I saw the blue-hued tresses of singer Jas Natasha to my left. Then on my right was the homie Mir.I.Am of K97.5 and we always seem to show up to the same events lol. On stage was Artist Will Wildfire performing with his guitar memorizing the crowd and instantly I became a fan. His soulful sounds and rifts on his guitar had us all standing still. Artist MBalla was in front of me and she joined him on stage for their collaboration song. Following was DJ Fannie Mae who performed with a guitar and when I tell you her voice is beautifully soulful. I've seen her DJ before but never perform in such an intimate setting as this have I seen her showcase her gifts this way. I can't wait to see what's next from her! Afterwards I ventured inside to take a peak at the indoor vendors and their was a vintage shop inside with some of my favorite brands. It was array of variety for all types and I like how this pop-up shop event was a mixture of artists and supporters embracing the music. Its a testament to the support we have in the artistic community here in Raleigh/Durham. I'm ready for the next one already so stay tuned Summer is on its way. Check out pics below !
