Red is the New Black Fashion Show
Happy Thursday Night Luvs!
OMG The Lux Blog is Back! I know it seems like we were on the longest break ever but we had this amazing fashion show production to execute. The Lux Blog and 2BeatHIV partnered to host an HIV Cure Research Fashion show called "Red is the New Black"! This was by far one of the largest HIV Cure Research events in the Triangle area in my opinion. We had the opportunity to educate our surrounding communities of over 200+ guests, provide economic opportunity to 25+ vendors, engaged over 20+ volunteers, showcased 5 musical artists from NC, highlighted corporate vendors including UNC Center of AIDS Research, styled 16 models with 4 different fashion lines, a styled to perfection Fashion Director, a beauty team of 2 fabulous hairstylists, 4 glam make-up artists, a crystal-inspiring event planner, the hottest DJ Wade Banner, radio sponsors Choice FM 92.1, media sponsors Sheen Magazine & Spectacular Magazine, talented graphic artist, a moment capturing photographer, a gracious videographer, WRAL's Mikaya Thurmond, and The Diva herself Mrs. Sheryl Lee Ralph. Yes, take a breath and take all of that in because over a casual dinner with friend Dr. Allison Mathews at one of my favorite restaurants in Durham, Nantucket Grille, nearly 4 months ago "Red is the New Black" began. What a journey from just a dream that kept reoccurring for nearly 2 years in my sleep that is now a beautiful moment I'll cherish for a lifetime.
Tonight I wanted to say thank you to some very inspiring people that helped make this event such a success. First, to my peers at The Lux Blog & The Lux Public Relations Agency, Latoyia Wright thank you for being that supportive sisterfriend that stood strongly as our Fashion Show Director. Your gift of styling was magnified at the fashion show and I know even greater opportunities are ahead for you that's why I refuse to let you stop dreaming. Lauren Bryant thank you for capturing the moments we can all reflect on in the years to come and its always great when you work with your friends on projects. Dr. Allison Mathews thank you for your genuine friendship, creativeness, and its been a beautiful journey not only working with you on this event but getting to know you as well. How refreshing it is to work with someone with the same passion for HIV Awareness and I appreciate the change agent you are. To my best friends behind the scenes Miranda Evans and Nikita Small for being the prayer warriors in my corner during every transition to create this amazing event. Thank you Tiana Glover of TG Graphics for providing lavish flyer visuals for each of our steps in this journey. Thank you Alicia Eatmon of Essence Events for setting our stage so beautifully. Each of you have inspired me with your music and it was a pleasure working with each of you! Remember me when you accept your awards in the future lol. Thank you to the beautifully gifted Stephanie Brown for sharing your passionate poem with us which I have watched over and over again. Thank you UNC Center for AIDS Research & PI for Project IFE for your generous contribution to the "Red is the New Black" Fashion Show and for allowing us to make a community engaging impact. A special thank you to NCCU's Department of Public Health Education for allowing us to have an event venue to showcase our show and the inspiring research your students are doing to cultivate our communities.
