Happy Saturday Night Luvs!
Last weekend we were preparing for over 60 professional singles to meet at our first social mixer of the year "The Meet-Up". As I reflect on that time it was an experience more so than an event. It was not only a divine atmosphere for networking and intriguing conversation but it was my "Independence Day" of proud singlehood. I shared many great moments with The Lux Blog Team and all of you that attended. So much so that I left that evening feeling the way I did in October 2015 when "The Lux Blog" was born. Check out what my fellow teammates had to say about their experiences from a married woman, single man, and single woman's perspecitives!
Kat Speaks: "Married in the Singles Mixer"
The dating dynamic has certainly changed! As a newlywed, who barely missed the boom of speed dating and the influx of dating apps, the singles mixer validated two fundamental themes: (1) love is not the end goal; it is a pit stop and (2) there is a divine appointment when it comes to love. My first point stems from the wonderful turnout. When speaking to the beautiful women and handsome men that filled the room, most did NOT come for the seemingly obvious reason (to meet Mr. or Mrs. Right). They came to get out on a beautiful Saturday. Others mentioned drink specials and music, while some spoke on the opportunity to showcase a new outfit! However, the majority of individuals came to network with local professionals. As ironic as it seems, most women KNEW they’d substantially outnumber the men…and they did; leading to my second point. Little Wayne said it best; “numbers don’t lie.” The ratio was roughly 6:1 women to men. The mixer, a microcosm of the area, actually has better odds than some cities: Atlanta, Baltimore, and Los Angeles just to name a few. This simply validates that finding that needle in the haystack may take a little patience and a lot of divine assignment. Until then, the singles will continue to look amazing and make major strides in life!
Smiles and laughter, flirtatious chatter, circulated amongst the beautiful ebony tones that gathered” . I bobbed my head, nodding to the smooth grooves of neo-soul.
Dj @remyfromdaville kept the atmosphere warm and stimulating. Given the amount of beautiful, professional women assembled, I could barely contain my poker face. It was obvious I had been placed in a winning situation. The combination of Ice breaker cards and signature drinks eased the nervousness of both ladies and gentleman. It was so exciting, calculated ,yet fluid, intriguing and sexy. I believe I witnessed the birth of something beautiful and needed. The only close comparison I can draw from this experience is the feelings you got when you watched Larenz Tate and Nia Long intertwine in that cool atmosphere. The naked relatable souls gathered were equally optimistic, serenaded by poetry, and captivated by the thought of love and companionship. Its The Lux !! V8ga out
Tynique's "Magical" Moment:
If I had to describe the “The Meet up” singles mixer in one word I would choose “Magical”. When I arrived and walked through the doors of the hotel there was a very conservative yet engaging air. The DJ was able to set the tone with soulful R&B. As I began to mingle the women seem to very optimistic, and the men seem animatedly overwhelmed with the fact that there were so many beautiful single women at their disposal. Poetry readings and stunning hosts along with $5 Rosé kept the crowd and myself in high spirits. I left the hotel proud and fascinated with The Lux Blog NC. I look forward to hosting upcoming events with my amazing teammates.
