There are points in our lives that are so momentous they deserve careful planning and attention to detail. Although there are many specialists available, choosing the right planner is essential.  The best results often come from those select few that take pride in bringing forth a vision that is both beautiful and timeless. The Lux Blog NC recently got a chance to talk with Essence Events and immediately it was apparent that this wasn’t a hired work staff. This was more like a caring family that is focused and determined to treat your moment as special as their own.

For the people who may not be familiar with you and your beautiful work, where are you from and can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Alicia Eatmon, Founder and Creative Director of Essence Events. Essence Events is a full-service event management company that specializes in floral services, planning, and design décor. Essence Events is a reflection of our dreams and desire to create amazing experiences and celebrate the most special moments in one's life. Essence Events, a collaborative family business, is based in Wilson, North Carolina. We are comprised of a small team of creatives that provide services in any destination. Our team's individual talents and ideas allow us to create great experiences.  We are always busy planning and brainstorming. When I am not working, I am usually spending time with my greatest blessing, my teenage son, Khalil or hanging out with my family.

What inspired you to be an event planner and how long have you been providing your services?

As I reflect, many of the most special moments were the beautiful gatherings and celebrations that my mother and grandmothers hosted over the years in their homes, churches, or wherever required. Regardless of the event, they wore their best, acted their best, and gave their best. This had the greatest influence on me for creating great experiences. They made so many simple things beautiful, but the one thing that stuck with me were the beautiful floral arrangements my grandmother made for churches, civic clubs, family, and friends. My mom would often assist her and so did I. Now, over twenty years later, we have combined our mutual passion for design and work together side by side at our dream business.

What is the range of events you cater to and what do you consider to be your specialty?

We provide event management services for weddings, social and corporate events, but weddings form the foundation of our business. Planning a wedding is a journey we take with each couple, we have figured out that no two couples are the same. Whether we are designing and planning weddings or social and corporate events all require the same flair and attention to detail that has become synonymous with our brand.

What is the most difficult aspect of your work as well as the most rewarding?

We deal with people during emotionally intense periods of their lives whether it be a wedding, or a political campaign launch/fundraiser.  Naturally, when emotions are so heavily involved, there are a lot of fires to put out. Although sometimes a challenge, it is paramount that I keep the client happy at all times. Communication and solution focused problem solving have been key during many challenging times. We strive to make our clients happy. Client referrals and repeat business is our biggest reward.

I imagine event planning is careful and meticulous, do you have a story of when something crazy or weird happened and you had to adapt?

Yes, I had a bride that was going to have a destination wedding and 4 days before her wedding a hurricane arrived. After months of planning the destination wedding was scheduled to be held at a gorgeous beach resort, but everything was changed in less than 72 hours. Location, vendors, logistics, and I mean everything had to be selected in 3 days. This meant late nights, early mornings, and lots of consoling phone calls with the bride saying, "Don't worry, it will be beautiful.” The outcome was a beautiful wedding and a happy couple.

What do you have planned for the future in terms of expansion or other endeavors?

The hospitality and lifestyle industry are very dynamic and changes quickly.  We are challenging ourselves to focus more on design to grow our business in those areas. Follow us to stay abreast on all things Essence Events.
