Happy Sunday Luvs & 4th Year Blog Anniversary Month,

This time last week we were gearing up for the 2019 Art of Cool Festival that takes place in downtown Durham, NC. The subscribers that have been with us over the years know that we love AOC Fest and that we have tons of great memories each year. This year the headliners were Dreamville’s Ari Lennox, songstress Jill Scott, Run DMC, and Whodini at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park! There were special appearances and performances by Zoo Cru, Marcus Anderson, Jus Once Band, Mark Allen Felton, Butterscotch, Black Violin, and 9th Wonder’s classic 95 Live Party at the Durham Armory on Friday. Saturday there were lots of activities such as a talk with Michael Eric Dyson, Kickoff to College Fair, BJ the Chicago Kid, G Yamazawa, Terminator X, Jessica Care Moore, and a DJ set by Talib Kweli at Motorco. It was an eventful weekend indeed and for the new attendees to AOC Fest we hope you had a great time!

Check out Lynnie’s Friday Night Recap:

Friday night at AOC was absolutely everything. My festival experience started with me humming to the beautiful sounds of Black Violin. At one point I found myself swaying from side to side with my head tilted back with my eyes closed completely lost in the moment. The vibe continued as Ari Lennox hit the stage. She has such a soothing Southernly unique sound. As she went down the song list I could not help but hope she would sing my favorite song and right when the thought started to leave she began to sing, “I just bought a new apartment, I’m gon’ leave the floor wet”. That humming I was doing transformed to me softly singing right at “and nobody can tell me sh*t”. It was cool to learn that she purchased her first apartment in the neighboring town, Cary, NC. The crowd went bananas with the beat dropped to her newest single BMO. Ari (Lennox) is definitely a crowd-pleasing performer. She was a great appetizer for the full course meal Jill Scott served up. Jilly from Philly hit the stage and transformed a stadium that easily seats 10,000 people into an intimate setting that felt more like your living room. Her music has a way of doing that, you know. As soon as she softly began to sang “woke up this morning..” that soft singing I was doing before changed again. This time it was stronger and much louder. I was now a full-fledged member of the Jill Scott “Mass Choir”. Jill had us laughing, dancing, cursing, crying, healing, and even had us vowing to love ourselves a little bit more than the day before. This was my first Jill Scott experience and it was everything i thought it would be, completely awesome.
